Magdalena Albizu is a woman of many talents. She began her career as a social worker serving the needs of women affected by domestic violence as a Case Worker. As much as she enjoyed helping people, Magdalena found herself wanting to express her creative side. Changing careers from Social Work to Production was not an easy decision, but her spark lit up after the 1999 Black Out/Brown Out from the NAACP and National Council de La Raza. The Black Out/Brown Out boycotted Networks because they didn’t have people of color on prime time shows and they encouraged POC to be more involved in the industry. Not being formally trained, Magdalena volunteered to work a variety of projects to gain experience. People began to notice her dedication, hard work, and hustle. Soon, she was being requested to work on projects, not as a volunteer, but for pay! Since changing careers in 2005, Magdalena has been fortunate to work continuously as a freelancer in all forms of media: commercials, feature films, television shows and digital. Some of the shows she worked include MTV2’s Woodie Awards, I am Legend, Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne, MasterClass, Classic or Trash with Desus and Mero, AfroPop, and Consider it.

In 2004, Magdalena co-created the Mezcla Media Market which provided the venue for the creation of the Long Island Latino International Film Festival (LILIFF), which provided filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work to the community on Long Island, as well as created various opportunities for independent filmmakers to showcase their talent. Magdalena also co-founded the New York Chapter of the Long Island Latino International Film Festival in 2004, and served as the Program Director until 2007. She also served as the President of the National Association Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) from 2007 to 2008.

Magdalena is a writer, director and producer. She is currently working in conjunction with NubianLatina Productions on a documentary, NEGRITA, a film which explores Afro Latinas in the United States and how their skin color affects them in the American and Latino cultures. Born in Long Island, New York to Dominican parents, after high school Magdalena attended the University of Florida where she received her BA in Sociology. She earned her Masters of Social Work from Adelphi University. Magdalena's passions include social issues, working in production, creating stories, and counseling.
